Frequently Asked Questions

Homeopathy is based on the theory that "like cures like". The process of devising a homeopathic remedy is based on the theory that the method of dilution and secussion (agitation), cases a reaction between the ingredient, which can come from animal, plant, mineral or other source, and the water and alcohol that it is diluted in. Although it is diluted many times, homeopaths consider that the homeopathic remedy retains properties of the original ingredient.

Homeopathy has had a lot of bad press throughout its history. There has been a lot of research done on the effectiveness of homeopathy. There are a lot of sceptics who's main critism is that Homeopathy is implausible. Their point is that we are diluting the substances beyond the point where there should not be any molecule of the original substance left in the solution ie. beyond Avogadro's number. So far science has had difficulty in explaining this extreme dilution effect. However, there has been some recent published research showing that there is possibly formation of nanoparticles and nanobubbles during extreme dilution and secussion (vigorous shaking during the traditional preparation of homeopathic remedies). This looks as though it may go some way to explain why homeopathic dilutions may work or that they are different from plain water but this is in very early stages of the research and still does not suggest how these nanoparticles may work in the body though there is a possible theory that these nanoparticles could possibly pass through cell membranes and the blood/brain barrier. At the moment this is all theoretical.

There are lots of studies that look at clinical outcomes from the use of homeopathic treatment.
